This settlement covers owners and lessees of certain 2010 to 2020 model year Kia vehicles with specific MPI or GDI engines, such as several Forte, Optima Hybrid, Sorento, Soul and Sportage models. The lawsuit claims an engine defect can cause stalling, engine failure or fire, and that some owners were wrongly denied warranty repairs. Kia has not been found liable, and the case was settled voluntarily. Eligible owners may get cash reimbursement for past out-of-pocket repairs, costs tied to engine failures or fires such as towing and transportation, compensation for certain trade-ins or sales, payment for a totally lost vehicle, or rebates in some cases. Covered vehicles also receive an extended powertrain warranty of 15 years or 150,000 miles, which does not require a claim form but may require a free knock sensor update at a Kia dealer first. To claim cash benefits, file a claim form by the deadline, and expect that some claims require documentation. You can verify your vehicle by VIN on the settlement website or by calling the settlement administrator.
We're not a law firm; the official settlement site has the final word.
