People in the United States whose personal and health information may have been accessed in a cyberattack on Hospital Español Auxilio Mutuo de Puerto Rico around September 2023 may be eligible. The hospital denies wrongdoing, but agreed to a settlement of a class action lawsuit. The settlement fund is up to $500,000. Eligible people can choose either reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses of up to $2,500 or a flat alternative cash payment of $25. Everyone in the class can also enroll in two years of credit and medical monitoring, even without filing a claim. To get a cash payment, you must submit a claim form online or mail a paper form postmarked by December 21, 2026. Keep receipts or records if you claim out-of-pocket losses. You can also opt out, which means giving up the right to sue, or object by the same deadline. The court still needs to approve the settlement at a hearing scheduled for January 20, 2027.
We're not a law firm; the official settlement site has the final word.
