This settlement covers people in the United States and its territories who mailed Equifax a dispute about a hard inquiry on their credit file. Eligibility depends on Equifax's records. One group, the Certified Group, must have had a dispute coded as not theirs or unauthorized and received a letter saying inquiries are a factual record of file access. A General Dispute Group covers anyone who sent Equifax a hard inquiry dispute between August 31, 2021 and March 27, 2026. New York residents in a subclass receive a higher estimated payment. Estimated payouts are about $300 for the Certified Group, $100 for the General Dispute Group, and $400 for the New York Subclass, though amounts depend on claim rates. No proof of purchase is mentioned. To get paid, submit a claim form by November 29, 2026, choosing electronic payment or a mailed check. You can check your group using the claim number and PIN on your notice. Excluding yourself or objecting must be done by November 20, 2026. Equifax denies wrongdoing.
We're not a law firm; the official settlement site has the final word.
