A proposed class action settlement resolves claims from a criminal cyberattack on the website of Educational Computer Systems, Inc. that ran from October 29, 2023 to February 12, 2024. If your personal identifying information was affected by that security incident, you may be eligible for one of two payments. You can request reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses that were more likely than not caused by the breach, up to $5,000. Alternatively, you can ask for an alternative cash payment, currently estimated at about $100, which may go up or down depending on how many valid claims are filed. Either way, you must submit a claim form online or mail a paper copy postmarked by the deadline. The court still has to approve the settlement, and payments will only go out after any appeals are resolved. Other options include objecting or excluding yourself, which have earlier deadlines, or doing nothing and giving up monetary relief.
We're not a law firm; the official settlement site has the final word.
