This proposed settlement resolves a lawsuit over Lincoln University's move to remote learning during the Spring 2020 semester at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lawsuit claimed the school breached its contract and was unjustly enriched by keeping tuition and mandatory fees, seeking a partial refund. Lincoln denies wrongdoing and has agreed to pay $169,500 into a settlement fund without any finding of liability. You likely qualify if you were enrolled in at least one in-person, on-campus class for Spring 2020, did not withdraw by March 12, 2020, and paid tuition or fees, or had them paid for you, that have not been fully refunded. Students with full scholarships or tuition remission are excluded. You do not need to file a claim. Payments will be mailed automatically to your last known address on file with the Registrar, and you can choose a check, Venmo, or PayPal by submitting an update within 45 days after the Effective Date. Opting out or objecting must be postmarked by August 10, 2025. Final approval is scheduled for September 15, 2025, and payments depend on that approval. Participating means giving up related claims against the university.
We're not a law firm; the official settlement site has the final word.
