You cannot use autofill on this form, I noticed it didn’t give me a confirmation at the end when I did for me but did when I typed in my mother-in-law’s address so I had to go back and type in my info, thought I’d let you all know so yours would show.
Can you all give some advice about my new dog I adopted yesterday? How do I keep her out of the trash in the kitchen. I have a safety gate up but she jumps over it. I don’t want to remove my trash can b/c where in the world would I put it and “No” isn’t working. Please help, I’m going nuts, she’s destrying my kitchen floor. I’ve been cleaning all morning, the same thing over and over.

Awww..I don’t know-have you tried getting her some rawhide chewies or something to keep her occupied?

karen replied on October 3rd, 2008 :
We have to keep our trash can inside the pantry where our dog won’t get at it. Or maybe get one with a lid. Chewies only work so long, then they get bored. Good luck! :bigthumb:

I know this will sound weird, but when we got my son’s puppy (3 yrs ago) I JUST spent mega bucks on an oriental rug for my kitchen. Starting day 1 I would tell Donatello “No kitchen” and pick her up and set her at the entryway to the kitchen. She knows NOT to go into the Kitchen. Our other puppy Coco (2 yrs) is stubborn and sneaks into the kitchen, and overall is much harder to train than the other dog, but does stop at the entryway 98% of the time.
Labs are VERY smart dogs, I bet she will learn quickly!
Does your dog knock over the trash or is it just get into it? Have you thought about investing in a trash can with a foot pedal to open the lid?

She is just into it(for now, LOL)
Everytime she is out of the kennel she goes straight for the kitchen and then the bathroom. Bathroom trash is now empty so not a problem for now(no trash=boredom) but it is impossible to have trash can empty in kitchen-ever! As soon as I dump it, something needs to go in it it seems…you should have seen my kitchen floor this morning when I woke up and discovered the kids let her out of the kennel before I could get to her…oh boy…

Set a mousetrap (the old-fashioned wire and wood kind) and put it on top. It should only take once, twice at the most. Make sure you are nearby, in case doggie gets something caught in it.
This is how we taught our pup to stay off the leather sofa!

No. I have given her some milkbones, she doesn’t like them.
I’ve put her in her kennel for a little while now, she has worn me slam out. But, don’t want to confine her much. It’s right beside me.
Thanks for your reply. And, I’ll take all tips from anyone, in case something doesn’t work.

i feel your pain!! My puppy also LOVES the trash cans (all of them) so I have had to resort to putting them on top of kitchen chairs and top of the toliet as least when i am at work…yes it makes for a pretty sight when people come over but sure beats picking up egg shells and cigarette butts..good luck

Thanks for your response. Guess I will out the cans up higher. Probably buy a rawhide too, I’m up for anything versus picking up trash all day. Boy, this dog can jump too, she’s a black lab. Wonder if she will get up on the chairs, eesh…

you might try the scat mat. it might scare your dog enough that it wont bother the trash can

bella replied on October 3rd, 2008 :
short term solution – put the trash can behind closed doors or inside a cabinet (get a smaller trash can if necessary).
long term solution – labs are famous for eating just about anything, so even consistently yelling “no” as soon as the dog opens the trashcan and then praising, might not work reliably. Get a baby safety lock for the trash can, or a specific dog-resistant one.

We keep our kitchen garbage can on the counter to keep the dog out of it. The bathroom door stays closed, so that one isn’t an issue for her.
Our dog doesn’t quite get “no” either. It’s very frustrating.
Good luck!

I got it but i just noticed it disapeared off the main page. Doesn’t it usually say expired after its gone?
Jamie replied on October 3rd, 2008 :
Not when it goes as fast as it did
Chris replied on October 3rd, 2008 :
If stuff is expired on the main page I usually make it private so it doesnt clog it up.
I just won some M&Ms finally!! :bigthumb:
