LIMIT TEN ENTRIES PER PERSON AND PER E-MAIL ADDRESS during the Entry Period, regardless of whether more than one person uses the same e-mail address.
Each recipe entered must call for Scharffen Berger® Chocolate—either chocolate bars or chunks (with cacao content of bar or chunks specified) or cocoa—along with at least one “adventure ingredient” from the following list of 12: coconut milk or coconut cream; sweet potato; tapioca or tapioca flour; tequila; banana; chili pepper (any type; fresh, whole-dried or ground); pine nuts; corn meal; Sumatra coffee; fresh ginger; yerba mate tea; cacao nibs. Each entry must include complete directions for preparation, including the mixing, cooking/refrigeration/freezer time, size of pan where applicable and number of servings. Each recipe must list exact ingredients in standard U.S. measurements. Judges strongly prefer ingredients to be listed in their order of use, with no typographical errors. Entrants may choose to write a teaser describing their recipe; these teasers will not be scored. Your recipe must be your own and original and should never have been published before, nor won any other prize nor been submitted or entered in any other contest.
No entries submitted will be returned. Entrants represent that recipes submitted are his/her original work. By entering, entrants agree, as a condition of entering the contest, to grant Sponsors a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the Recipe for any purpose in any media now known or developed in the future without notice, approval or compensation to Entrant. Sponsor may use recipes, photographs and the name, photograph and/or likeness of entrants in any manner and in any media including advertising, promotion and/or public relations agencies with no additional compensation unless prohibited by law.
JUDGING CRITERIA
The Judges will judge recipes in only one category as follows: Sandwich Cookies. Judging will be conducted in two rounds. The first round will be based on creativity and whether the recipe represents a spirit of adventure (25%), use of Scharffen Berger chocolate or cocoa (25%), perceived taste of finished recipe (25%) and perceived ease of preparation (25%). Entries will be judged under the supervision of a highly qualified judging panel whose decisions will be final and binding on all matters relating to this contest. The 15 highest scoring recipes in the first round will be prepared and judged according to the following criteria: creativity and whether the recipe represents a spirit of adventure (35%), taste of finished recipe (35%), ease of preparation (20%) and appearance (10%). Entries will be judged under the supervision of a highly qualified judging panel whose decisions will be final and binding. Judging will take place on or about February 24, 2013. All judges’ decisions are final.
One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive $25,000. The Grand Prize winner will also receive a special custom Scharffen Berger® collection of products worth $250 at retail and a signed copy of The Essence of Chocolate by John Scharffenberger and Robert Steinberg, as well as Chewy Gooey Crispy Crunchy Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cookies by Alice Medrich. Ten (10) Chocolate Adventure Contest 2012 Culinary Honorees winners (“Culinary Honorees”) will each receive an engraved iPad® worth between $399 and $499 at retail.
