This is going to be a simple post, since I really don’t know a whole lot about being an Audio Transcriber.  I do know that if you can type and spell well you can make a decent amount of money doing this.  Basically you will just be transcribing interviews and speeches and you get paid by doing each job.  There are a couple sites where you can get hired doing this.
These two sites are meant for people with really good typing and spelling skills.  The first is tigerfish.com, and the other one is productiontranscripts.com.  Both of these sites will be quite strict compared to contractedwork.com, but you have a better chance of making more money with them.  Since I don’t have experience with this work there isn’t much more I can say, but it might be worth a try if you’re interested.

Is it safe to put your SS# on these surveys?

It looks like you take 3 transcription tests and then if selected to work for tigerfish you must buy some SW.

I just tried the first test. I’m a proofreader and edit documents for a living, and I have excellent spellng and grammar. I type 80-90 wpm and have done dictaphone typing. The first test has taken me an hour, and it’s still a rough draft, with much to fill in. Some is inaudible. They say it shouldn’t take you over 20 minutes to complete each test. You’d have to be a real whiz. The problem is, you have to keep stopping Realplayer and re-starting the test. I think I’d rather flip burgers for $5 an hour than do this very arduous work.

Whoops! Just noticed after I bragged myself up that I spelled “spelling” incorrectly on my preceding comment. And, I did not mention I was referring to tigerfish.com. Anyway, my point was, the test proved to be overwhelming.

I type dictation for a living (i’m a legal assistant) so I would assume this would be cake for me! Instead of realplayer, can you use expressscribe (which is a free download)?

I checked the software that they require you to get. Wow, $250! This sounded pretty good until I saw the price tag. I probably don’t type fast enough. Thanks for the opportunity.
