last night i used lots of garlic in my rice and beans. some might say it was too much – oh how it burned – but they are simply not equipped for the glory. not to mention the wonderful effects on the immune system. not that my immune system needs any help.
actually, i’ll let you in on the greatest freebie of all time, which will also bolster your viral immunities unbelievably – dumpster diving. i’ve been eating primarily (80-90%) out of dumpsters for about 5 years now, and it is glorious. want so much fair trade organic produce that you end up serving public free meals just to clean your kitchen? hit up that trader joe’s dumpster. or wild oats, whole foods, sunflower, whatever. sometimes you’ll find cases of wine because some of the labels peeled. sometimes you’ll come across a bag full of tubs of hummus – RIGHT next to the whole wheat pitas. it’s mind-boggling.
the whole dumpster thing has a whole culture behind it, and it’s kind of an open secret. i wouldn’t give away the locations of my favorite spots to just anyone, but it doesn’t take a lot of work to find a good route almost anywhere. i figured a bunch of other cheap bastards might want to know about it. just look out for the five-oh.
