boy I really get confused. I have a daughter who will going to get more vaccines in 2 weeks–she will be one years old. I wish I knew if vaccines are harmful or not?????

kathisierra replied on July 18th, 2008 :
well I’ve had them all, and am still well, alive and kicking at my old age.
sonya replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I had all the shots too and I’m still alive and kicking too!!!!
Becky replied on July 21st, 2008 :
Thats how I look at it too! My daughter gets all her shots on time and is still just fine.
CarinaJ replied on July 18th, 2008 :
adrian is up to date with all his vaccines and he is 2 and perfectly health
kathisierra replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I don’t remember being given the shots at such a young age, I think we didn’t get them until we were to enter first grade, and then they are required. Maybe they are giving them way to early these days?
CarinaJ replied on July 18th, 2008 :
my doctor ssaid they have to have all the vacines when to go to preschool and such so idk
Becky replied on July 21st, 2008 :
I know I got shots when I was this age. I am personally not worried about the shots at all.
Chris replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I wouldnt worry about it. I think these are the “tin foil hat” type of people
CandyToo replied on July 18th, 2008 :
Maybe I’ve got my tin foil hat on. I think the main concern (at least for me) is just the number of vaccines. When I was little (I’m in my 30s now) they didn’t give near as many shots as they do now. But obviously vaccines were needed to get rid of diseases and also most of the people that get them don’t have problems. If you do have a problem, then to you it’s 100% that vaccines aren’t safe. I just know as a mom of 4 kids that I wonder a lot of times if we are giving too many shots. I don’t know, either, but I don’t think it hurts kids to get chicken pox or some of those illnesses that we got when we were young.
Sarah replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I agreed with Chris, my reply was to Candy.
Sarah replied on July 18th, 2008 :
Now that’s funny, and I couldn’t agree more.
Sarah replied on July 18th, 2008 :
What about the people who didn’t ever get chicken pox (like me?) It would be life threatening for me to be exposed to it now without being vaccinated (which I am, of course). Kids can get really sick even from chicken pox- guess you and yours never did- knock on wood.
CandyToo replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I actually had chicken pox when I was 18 and I was miserable. I just hope my kids get it before then. I know of a couple of young children who had the chicken pox vaccine and now have gotten shingles. That didn’t work out so well.
I wasn’t trying to start an argument or anything. I just said that personally I wonder if we try to vaccinate against too many things. That’s all. I just expressed my thoughts like everyone else did. I guess I’m not supposed to do that. Sorry.
Becky replied on July 21st, 2008 :
I have never had the chicken pox (I’m 24) and I have a little one. It is great for me that we were both able to get the shot.
For whoever said this doesn’t hurt anyone - there are actually several hundred children killed each year by chickenpox! It is rare, but there are hundreds each year that die. I would rather give my child the vaccines and KNOW she’s not going to get something that might harm her for life than let her be one of a million kids who MAYBE have a problem that MIGHT be related to the shots but nothing is proven. The chances of her getting some crappy disease if she doesn’t get them is much higher than her becoming autistic from the shots.
Becky replied on July 21st, 2008 :
Ok…I totally didn’t read this before I sent it…What I meant to saw was…I would rather give my child the vaccines and know she’s not going to get some disease rather than not have her get the vaccine for fear of something that MIGHT be related to shots even though nothing is proven about it. Plus, if I got the chicken pox it would not be good at my age!

I am one of those people!!
It’s okay, I think everyone should have an opinion.
My husband and I didnt put much stock into it all until a lot of people we knew were having problems and medical conditions pop up with their children and they blamed it on the vaccinations, but it wasnt until we had our own child that we actually started researching it. This is a good site http://www.generationrescue.org/
I think everyone should have an opinion.
I normally dont voice my “foil-hat” opinions on here, but incase someone is out there looking for answers (I know what that’s like) I wanted to post this site. Before we had him we knew we did not want him getting any vaccinations in the hospital (they give them when they are only a few hours old), I told them that and they said they get that a lot and its no problem. So, at 2 mnths he had his first vaccinations and then we took him again a few months later, but the more my husband and I researched we saw that even though some people say “never, never” most doctors were saying atleast wait until age 2, so that’s where we are now. When we told our doctor our decision he also was not shocked and sees that more and more. Also, this is a good site to check out if your child has autism. Like I said, just wanted to post this in hopes of helping someone……not looking for a debate!
The “are vaccines safe” are probably something to do with autism. I had a medical waiver for Zachary’s vaccinesfor a LONG time but gave up. He has autism and I dont know if it was from vaccines or not. I do not know what causes it but I research the hell out of it daily!! If it is proven to be the vaccines, I will be the 1st in line to sue these drug companies for taking away a normal life for my child. Unless u live with it on a daily basis you will never know the feeling.
Sarah replied on July 18th, 2008 :
Oh PUHLEASE. Time for me to leave the site, obviously. If you’ve done the research, you KNOW it’s bogus. And I do know kids with autism.
CandyToo replied on July 18th, 2008 :
How can you be so callous and hurtful to someone who is suffering with a child with autism? No one knows how the child got it and Cyndie never stated it was from vaccines. There’s probably a chance that it did come from them just like there’s a chance it was from something else. But I think you went over the line and were too critical of someone who has been touched by it. Be a little more gentle. Please.
Jill replied on July 18th, 2008 :
I agree that that was a little harsh. I do not believe that vaccines caused my son to be PDD-NOS which is part of the autism spectrum, we think a bad virus triggered it, but there are others I know who noticed a change in there children immediatly after getting the vaccines. I didn’t with my son, he’s always been the way he is. I personally think that there could be lots of things that trigger it, both genetic and environmental. In some cases the vaccines may be the cause, I still think they are important though.
Jill, I agree. Earlier someone mentioned they wondered if kids were given vaccines too early. I just stated my fear was maybe there were too many. Vaccines are/were very important in getting rid of lots of diseases. But you have to be responsible. Sometimes I think that people try so hard to avoid one thing (like chicken pox) that it upsets the balance of other things (like shingles.)
I just got irritated by the comment “And I do know kids with autism.” How could you say that to someone who HAS a child with autism? Argh. Sorry to hear about your child’s PDD-NOS. I heard recently of a child that the government agreed vaccines had caused her to be autistic, but the government thought she had a predisposition to that. I guess kind of how some people are more prone to addiction or whatever.
Wow Sarah…I haven’t seen your name before so I don’t no if are new to the site. If you’re new than that was really not a good way to start out…obviously trying to antagonize (sp?) a established member. Not a sure fire way to win friends. Cyndie stated her opinion in a manner that wasn’t sarcastic or offensive to anyone. You on the other hand had a “tone” that was not only those things but oh so superior. Shame on you…perhaps instead of worrying about vaccines you should worry about your lack of compassion.
Scout replied on July 19th, 2008 :
I also have to come out in Cyndie’s defense. We work hard here to create a supportive community. My opinion: if you don’t have anything positive to say, keep it to yourself. Cyndie, I hate that you are going through that with Zachary; it sounds like you are a very hard-working, supportive mother who will do whatever it takes to give your children the best life possible, and I applaud you for that:)
